In their nearly 20 years of marriage, Melissa Stark and her husband, author and SPCNJ founder Mike Lilley, have four children.

The 50-year-old founder and president of New Jersey’s Sunlight Policy Center is Melissa Stark’s husband, Mike Lilley.
The cornerstone of the SPCNJ is the study it conducted for the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in 2016-17, which resulted in the five-part series “Legal Corruption”.
Mike worked as Executive Director of the non-profit organization Better Education for New Jersey Kids prior to starting SPCNJ. He was also an adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, where he completed the Legal Corruption course.
Similarly, he also contributes to Discourse magazine, a new online publication on politics, economics, and culture from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.

Jackson Lilley, Cara and Clemmie Lilley, Mike “Michael” Lilley Jr. and twins Cara and Clemmie Lilley are the parents of Mike and Melissa’s four adult children.

He was a standout defender for the Saints football team before becoming the senior quarterback.
He was a force on the Saints basketball team boards before the pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 spring season, and was projected to become one of the leading scorers on the Saints lacrosse team.
In each game, Mike started at quarterback for the Saints and broke numerous records. With 355 passing yards and five touchdowns against Glasgow in just three quarters, Mike broke St. Andrews’ single-game passing record.

In the summer of 2020, Mike Stark hurt his knee while playing for a lacrosse club in his native New Jersey, according to his athlete biography. As his knee ached, he took a step, almost dislocating his knee and damaging his bones.
Mike made a full recovery, but a week later a stray lacrosse stick hit the bruise on the bone, making the situation intolerable. He had lost a lot of cartilage, was in terrible pain, and was forced to decide that his sports career must be put on hold indefinitely.
But it was Mike’s optimistic outlook that convinced him to return to the field and court in the end. In the fall of 2020, when COVID-19 restrictions forced his junior football season to be cancelled, he recognized the opportunity to rehab his knee, but he also recalled some tough times.
