PROJECT DESCRIPTION
FROM THE ARCHITECTS:
Panda House responds to the main threats of extinction of the species (habitat loss and fragmentation) by providing a safe and contiguous environment that is also conducive to reproduction. We proposed a circular shape for the design, which fit perfectly with the site between the existing buildings and allowed the literal yin-yang symbol to create separate enclosures for the male and female pandas. Then, the architectural parts of the land are raised from both sides of the “yin” and “yang” to form a space for the stables underground, simultaneously creating an inclination to naturally look at the pandas towards the audience.
The Panda House consists of two floors: the ground floor, where access to the interior spaces is connected by a circulation ramp, and the second floor, which can lead to a journey up the rocky slope, through the indigenous Nordic plants. and into the dense vegetation. bamboo forest. All interior features are designed to bring the lush landscapes to eye level, bringing visitors a sense of wildlife and immersion in nature. The ground floor of the Panda House also includes a restaurant, located between the elephants and the pandas; visitors can dine while viewing both animals simultaneously. There is also a store connected between both animal houses and the Main Plaza, located just outside the Panda House.
